Sometimes researchers create a ResearchGate account and forget they already have one, or they can't log in to their original account. If you have two accounts and want to combine them, you can submit a merge request.

#### **How merging accounts works** <a href="#how-does-merging-accounts-work" id="how-does-merging-accounts-work"></a>

When accounts are merged, all publications (including related statistics like citations and reads) from one account are transferred to the other. The merged account is then permanently deleted.

**Please note:** Profile views, followers, followings, and questions will not be transferred.

#### **How to merge your accounts** <a href="#how-do-i-merge-my-accounts" id="how-do-i-merge-my-accounts"></a>

If you have two accounts, follow these steps to submit a merge request:

1. Log in to the ResearchGate account you want to keep.
2. Visit the profile page of your other account (the one you want to merge and delete).
3. On the right-hand side of the page, click the three-dot button and select **Report duplicate profile.**
4. Enter the email address for each account, check the checkbox, and click Submit merge request.

We will review your request and send you a confirmation email once the merge is complete.

**Important:**

* You can only keep an account that you are currently able to log in to.
* If you aren’t seeing the three-dot button on the account you wish to merge, you are either viewing an account you are logged into, or you are not logged into a ResearchGate account.
* Merging accounts is irreversible, so please make sure you log in to the correct account you wish to keep.

#### **What if you can't log into the account you want to keep?** <a href="#i-cant-log-in-to-the-account-i-want-to-keep.-what-can-i-do" id="i-cant-log-in-to-the-account-i-want-to-keep.-what-can-i-do"></a>

Unfortunately, you can only keep an account that you can currently access. If you cannot keep your original account, you will need to use your duplicate account as your main account.

#### **What if you can't remember the login email for your duplicate account?** <a href="#i-cant-remember-the-login-email-address-of-my-duplicate-account.-what-can-i-do" id="i-cant-remember-the-login-email-address-of-my-duplicate-account.-what-can-i-do"></a>

If you see an error message when submitting a merge request, it means that you are entering an email address that is not associated with the account you are trying to merge.

It's only possible to submit a merge request if you can confirm both accounts' email addresses. If you can't remember the login email address for your duplicate account, we might be able to delete or lock the account for you. To request this, please contact us [here](https://www.researchgate.net/contact?ticket_form_id=26539200920209).
