Your ResearchGate profile is your online identity as a researcher. It's where you showcase your research and contributions. Your profile has 5 main sections:

#### **Profile** <a href="#h_01jkgdj5y6fnz638gcm78mpr92" id="h_01jkgdj5y6fnz638gcm78mpr92"></a>

This section is for your basic information and research experience. Here, you can add details like:

* Your degrees and education history.
* Your institutional affiliations.
* Current journal roles and scientific society memberships.
* Grants, awards, or scholarships you've received.
* An introduction about yourself and your current activities.
* Other information such as languages, skills, expertise, disciplines, ORCID iD, and contact details.

To learn more about what information you can add and who can see it, please visit [Profile information and visibility](/profile/profile-information-and-visibility.md).

#### **Research** <a href="#h_01jkgdkh5mgc78wrreg8tb9ar3" id="h_01jkgdkh5mgc78wrreg8tb9ar3"></a>

In this section, you and others who visit your profile can see all your publications and the questions and answers you've posted.

#### **Stats** <a href="#h_01jkgdke50qc24n0bbz4gd55rm" id="h_01jkgdke50qc24n0bbz4gd55rm"></a>

The Stats tab shows you who’s reading, citing, and recommending your work, plus metrics about your publications' reads, recommendations, and citations.

#### **Following** <a href="#h_01jkgdk9rwach13xd04cjjx7jr" id="h_01jkgdk9rwach13xd04cjjx7jr"></a>

This section shows the research items, journals, and people you follow, as well as those who follow you.

When someone else views your profile, they can see the people you follow and who follow you, along with any journals you follow (if they're logged in). Individual research items you follow are not listed on this tab for other viewers.

Note: This doesn't mean following a research item is private — it may still be visible elsewhere, such as in other members' Home feed activity. For more details, see [Following research](/getting-started/following-research.md).

#### **Saved list** <a href="#h_01jkgdk62br36fsa69nhnrpygt" id="h_01jkgdk62br36fsa69nhnrpygt"></a>

This is your private collection of publications you've saved to read later. It helps you keep track of research you're interested in. Only you can see your Saved list.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.researchgate.net/profile/what-is-my-profile.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
