Managing your email settings
Our emails are designed to keep you informed about what's happening in your professional network on ResearchGate. We'll let you know when other researchers show interest in your publications or respond to your questions.
To customize your email preferences:
Go to your Email settings
Check the boxes next to the emails you want to receive.
You can also unsubscribe from a specific email type by clicking on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any ResearchGate email.
Please note: Even if you unsubscribe from all emails, you may still receive essential administrative communications, such as password reset emails.
Why am I still receiving emails after I clicked 'unsubscribe' in an email?
Clicking on unsubscribe in an email will only unsubscribe you from that particular type of email. If you want to unsubscribe from other types of emails, you must log in to ResearchGate and follow these steps:
Go to your Email settings
Uncheck the boxes for any email types or categories you no longer wish to receive.
Changing your login email address
Here's how to change the email address associated with your ResearchGate account:
Log in to ResearchGate using your current login email address.
Click on your profile image on the top right-hand side of any page.
Click Settings.
Under Email address, click Add additional email.
Type in the email address you want to use for logging in.
Enter your password and click Add.
A confirmation email will be sent to your new email address. Click the link in this email to complete the verification process. If you encounter an "Oops! We couldn't find that token in our database" error message, please make sure you are using the link in the latest email, as all previous links are invalidated. Check your spam folder and filters if you can't find it.
Then, return to your Account Settings
Select Set as primary next to the email address you've just added to make it the primary email address for your ResearchGate account. You can now use this email address when next logging into ResearchGate.
Can I use multiple email addresses on ResearchGate?
Yes! After signing up with your institutional email, you can add additional email addresses. Visit your Account Settings page follow the steps outlined above.
How do I delete an email address?
If you have multiple email addresses on your account, you can remove any additional email by visiting your Account Settings and clicking the x next to that email address.
Important: If you have verified your affiliation using a specific email address, it must remain linked to your account to maintain your verified status. Removing it will result in your badge being removed.
Why am I receiving emails from researchgatemail.net?
We send you notification emails from both researchgatemail.net and researchgate.net. If you receive ResearchGate emails from any other address, please do not open the email or click on any links, as it may be a phishing attempt.
Why am I not receiving the email confirmation?
If you haven’t received your email confirmation within 24 hours, please try the following:
Check your junk or spam folder: Sometimes emails can be filtered incorrectly.
Review email filters: Some email clients automatically sort emails into different folders.
Add ResearchGate to your address book: This helps ensure our emails are recognized as safe. Learn more here.
Contact your email administrator: Ask them to ensure all emails from @researchgate.net or @researchgatemail.net can be received.
Request another confirmation email: After trying the above, visit your Account Settings and click Re-send email.
Contact us: If you've tried all these options and still haven't received the email, please Contact us for further assistance.
How can I ensure I receive ResearchGate emails?
To keep receiving important updates and emails from us, please add [email protected] to your safe senders list or whitelist. Learn more.
You can learn more about our promotional emails here.
If you have not been able to receive emails from us for a prolonged period of time, we now require that you add a working alternative email address to your account.
If you don’t want to receive certain updates from us anymore, you can edit your email settings.
Can I log into ResearchGate if I no longer have access to my email address, and I've forgotten my password?
For security reasons, we cannot grant access to your account if you've forgotten your password and no longer have access to your registered email address. In this situation, we kindly ask you to sign up again with an active email address.
Once you've successfully signed up, if you know the email addresses for both your old and new accounts, you can easily merge them. Merging allows you to transfer all your publications (and some related data like citations and reads) from your old account to your new one. Please note that followers, followings, and questions cannot be transferred. Your old account will then be removed.
Please note: When merging, you must keep the account that you can access.
To merge your accounts:
Log in to the ResearchGate account you want to keep
Visit the profile page of your duplicate account
Select the three dots on the right-hand side of the page and then Report duplicate profile.
Enter the email addresses associated with both of your accounts and select Save.
Your merge request will be reviewed, and you will receive an email confirmation once it's complete. This may take some time.
If you cannot recall the email address associated with your account, you cannot submit a merge request. Please contact us if you wish to instead lock or delete your old account.
Why does the link in my email not work?
Links in emails can sometimes be blocked by your email client's security settings (e.g., Outlook or Apple Mail). Often, there's an option at the top of the email to allow links or pictures from that sender. If not, you may need to adjust a security setting in your email client.
We also recommend adding ResearchGate to your address book to prevent this issue in the future. You can find instructions on how to do this here.
As a workaround, you can forward the email to another email account you own that isn't experiencing this problem and click the link there.
