Does a Verified Badge mean a person’s identity has been verified?
No. We don’t assess people’s identities during the verification process. A Verified Badge shows that the account holder confirmed their institutional affiliation through our verification process.
Can I verify multiple affiliations?
Only your profile’s primary affiliation, which is displayed at the top of your profile, can be verified. You can change your primary affiliation at any time, but please note that your verified status will be removed until you verify your new primary affiliation.
Who can see my Verified Badge?
You can manage the visibility of your badge by clicking Edit at the top of your profile and checking or unchecking the 'Show my Verified Badge' checkbox.
If you choose to display your badge, it’ll be visible to all logged-in ResearchGate members. If you’ve enabled your public profile, it’ll also be visible to non-members and people who view your profile while logged out.
People who view your profile will see that you verified your affiliation using an institutional email address, but won’t see details about the email you used.
Why isn’t my institution available for verification?
Our verification system covers a wide range of higher education and research institutions, however, there may be cases where we don’t have data about an institution. If your institution isn’t listed, you’ll see the option to request that we add it to our verification system.
When submitting a request, you’ll be asked to provide your institution’s ROR ID (see Research Organization Repository) and any other information to help us confirm that it’s involved in research. Please note that some institutions that meet these requirements may not be compatible with our verification system.
Why is my institutional email address not recognized?
To verify your affiliation with an institution we recognize, you’ll need to enter an email address with a matching domain. If your institutional email address isn’t recognized as belonging to your institution, you can send us a request to add a missing domain. In your request, include some proof that the domain is associated with your institution. Please note that some domains aren’t compatible with our verification system and can’t be used for verification.
What happens to my current primary affiliation if I verify a different affiliation?
If the affiliation you choose to verify isn’t already your profile’s primary affiliation — or if you change your position or location — a new affiliation entry will be added to your profile once you complete your verification. Your previous primary affiliation will stay on your profile as an additional affiliation, which you can edit at any time.
What happens with the institutional email address I use for verification?
We’ll send an email with a confirmation link to the email address you use to verify your affiliation. If the email you entered isn’t already linked to your account, it’ll be added as an additional login email once you click the link in the email.
